Call me Mr.Congeniality

Last Thursday, Mommy and uncle took me to Costco cause we ran out of fruits at home and Mommy’s auntie and cousin were coming the following week so we needed to stock up.  After being in the shopping cart for about 10 mins, I wanted Mommy to hold me so I fussed and kept on throwing myself against Mommy.  She got the point and pulled me out of the shopping cart.  Mommy took me round and round the fruits - I got bored so I started waving at everyone that walked by.  Mommy was not aware of this; in fact, she did not even know that I can wave!

She was inspecting the many boxes of strawberries carefully (carrying me over her shoulder) when she heard an elderly couple exclaimed: “Well hello! Aren’t you the cutest boy?!” Naturally, she figured the elderly couple was referring to me and she turned around.  Sure enough, Mommy saw an elderly couple both with a huge smile on their faces and waving at me.  The “granny” said, “Your son is SOOOO adorable! We walked around the corner and saw this huge smile and him waving at us.” Mommy seemed to be confused; she paused for a second, and then answered politely, “But he doesn’t know how to wave.” The “granny” insisted that I was waving and just to validate her statement, I waved again right at the moment.  “Granny” happily pointed, “See? He just waved again!” Fortunately, Mommy caught me waving and she beamed and was all excited, exclaiming, “That’s the first time he’s ever waved!” It was then the “Granny”’s term to be surprised, commenting “So we’re the first ones he’s ever waved at?” I confirmed yes and the “granny” and “grandpa” were so honored!

Since the secret was out, I started to wave vigorously at everyone that walked by.  Most waved back with a smile, but there was a handful; whenever they did not, my happy eager face would turn downward in disappointment.  Mommy observed this when I excitedly waved at a man and anxiously waited for him to wave back; when he walked by without acknowledging me, I followed him with my disappointed “why didn’t you say hi to me?” gaze and sad puppy look.  When I turned around to look at Mommy, she had steam coming out of her ears and was about to march up to the man, grabbed him by the arm, and dragged him back to our shopping cart (where I was sitting again) and ordered him, “When my son waves at you, you wave back!”; the man lucked out because Uncle Chuck came to look for us at this moment and Mommy got sidetracked.

In any case, both Uncle and Mommy are so proud of me!

Sweet Owen getting naughty!

I took Owen to Ulta Beauty last night and he did not behave well. They didn’t have shopping carts because it’s a strip-mall shop so I had to hold him during the whole time. He wanted to touch all the merchandises, but I won’t let him, so he got mad. I had to kneel to look at some of the merchandises, so I ended up putting him on the floor. What a mistake! Baby happily started taking everything within his reach off the shelves, one by one! Then he would examine the products, flip them back and forth, then wave them around. Some of the merchandises got swept under the shelves in the process, and he had to try to get them out so Owen did a real good job of sweeping that area of the floor for the store. :(

Later, when I took out my keys for the cashier to scan my membership card, he wanted the keys to jingle so I gave them to him. When we got to the car, I took it for him to open the door and he started wailing, with huge tears rolling down his cheeks. I tried to exchange the keys for something else, but his mind was set on the keys. Could not win the battle so I gave in and took out the car key and gave him the rest of the keys with the keychain. *Sigh* I think it’s time for me to read some parenting books regarding disciplining infants/toddlers before Owen becomes too obnoxious! When we got home, as Grandma suggested, Owen got a “no-soap” bath as he has been mopping up the floor at the store.
